Today I'm visiting the blog Broken Teepee
I received a lovely review. Sometimes I am amazed and humbled at what readers tell me about my work. They are able to shed light on aspects of my novel that I hadn't really thought about about and I am grateful for the insight. Perhaps because of the orignal inspiration for the novel I didn't nessarily see the novel as a coming of into Afican American mysticism. But it very much is.
My character Grace as a coming of age heroine put me in mind of my favorite quote by Joseph Campbell where he talks about how we all can all take the hero's path to our greatness or grace.
“We have not even to risk the adventure alone, for the heroes of all time have gone before us — the labyrinth is thoroughly known. We have only to follow the thread of the hero path, and where we had thought to find an abomination, we shall find a god; where we had thought to slay another, we shall slay ourselves; where we had thought to travel outward, we shall come to the center of our own existence. And where we had thought to be alone, we shall be with all the world.”
